About Assateague

Photograph Wild Horses

For the nature or wildlife enthusiast, Assateague is an island rich in photographic opportunities. For the equine enthusiast, it is a mid-Atlantic mecca where wild horses roam the marshes and dunes of this unique barrier island.

Sand & Salt

While the horses are the main draw to the area, Assateague is home to over 300 species of shore birds, wading birds, waterfowl, and raptors. This is due to the fact that more than half of the island's 48,000 acres are near-shore and estuarine waters. These salt marshes, dunes, beaches and maritime pine forests provide a diversity that is able to sustain many different types of life.

Whether you enjoy photographing wild flowers, blooming cactus, rolling dunes, lush marshes, sunsets, egrets or the many hued wild horses, Assateague Island National Seashore is sure to please. Your portfolio will never be the same!

Torva Terra offers multiple options for workshops at Assateague: half day, full day, weekend and full week immersion tours. Regardless of which workshop you choose, the group size is kept small to maximize instruction time.
