Get ready! Adventures await as we hit the Ring Road to the famous Golden Circle. Here we will explore the natural wonders of Þingvellir National Park including the Geysir Geothermal Field and stunning canyon where the Hvítá River flows like a staircase down the falls of Gullfoss.

Day Three Highlights: Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Arnarstapi, Kirkjufell Mountain

Day three we will travel to Snæfellsnes Peninsula in West Iceland. Here we will photograph acres of gorgeous lupine wildflowers surrounding a country church below the mountains. Then we will walk the coastal trails at Arnarstapi to photograph the cliffs and sea arches. Our day will end with a session at the picturesque Kirkjufell Mountain and nearby waterfall Kirkjufellsfoss.

Day Four Highlights: Hvitserkur, Akureyri

Venturing northeast we will visit the majestic Hvitserkur, a rock formation just off shore perfect for reflection or long exposure photographs. Then we will press farther east to Akureyri Iceland’s second largest city. The beautiful harbor city lies at the head of the country’s largest fjord making for a scenic waypoint to rest and recharge.

Day Five Highlights: Goðafoss, Dettifoss, Lake Mývatn

Our fifth day we will see some of the most famous sights in Northern Iceland. Our first stop will bring us to Goðafoss a historic and spectacular panoramic waterfall. Next we will explore the wetlands and geothermal region of Lake Mývatn. To cap the day we will visit breathtaking Dettifoss, the largest and most powerful waterfall in Europe.

Day Six Highlights: East Fjords, Fishing Villages, Stokksnes, Vestrahorn

Traveling onward we will explore the East Fjords full of contrasting mountains and quaint fishing villages. Then we will visit a secret spot off the beaten path to view nesting puffins up close on lush coastal cliffs. Day Seven Highlights: Jökulsárlón Lagoon, Black Sand Beach

Our seventh day we will set out early and spend the day at the famous Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon and nearby black sand beach. This is a birthplace of icebergs where the enormous glacial ice breaks off and floats out to sea only to be pushed back onto the black sandy beach by the crashing waves. The beach is littered with glistening ice as far as the eye can see. As a special treat we will take a private boat tour of the lagoon for a unique view of the glacial ice!

Iceland's BouquetIceland's BouquetStory: This singular spot in Iceland, in the shadow of a mountain had the greatest variety of wildflowers, mosses and plants that I had seen in one spot yet. I couldn't help but admire the colors and the way that they contrasted with the iconic dark volcanic landscape of the country. Sunrise on the TrollsSunrise on the TrollsStory: The basalt sea stacks known as ‪‎Reynisdrangar‬. Legend has it that these rocks were trolls trying to drag their ship to shore. Instead they were caught by the dawn sun rising and forever turned to stone. Lupine Under IceLupine Under IceStory: I found this beautiful meadow of lupine wildflowers in Iceland one summer afternoon. The flowers stretched far to the foot of the mountains still peaked in glacial ice and snow. After many days of rain and gloom the clouds parted long enough for me to photograph this special location. Just a few hours later it was overcast and raining again.
Beacon in the StormBeacon in the StormStory: In the fog and storm this bright orange ‪‎lighthouse‬ stood out like the perfect beacon.

FinallyFinallyStory: That feeling when the clouds finally parted after many days of rain. Lupine Under Stormy SkiesLupine Under Stormy SkiesStory: A summer storm during the famed midnight sun clouds the sky over a vast field of lupine wildflowers. The sheer acres of flowers were breathtaking in number as they stretched as far as the eye could see in every direction. The Berserker's FieldThe Berserker's FieldStory: Berserkjahraun is an enormous field of 3-4,000 year old lava that gets its name from the Icelandic Eyrbyggia Saga. (The Icelandic Sagas are prose historic literature of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.) This eerie natural wonder is slowly being reclaimed by nature. Delicate mosses and grasses contrast beautifully with the rich dark volcanic ash and basalt of past eruptions. Into the Icy LagoonInto the Icy LagoonStory: Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon is a lake full of gigantic icebergs calved from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. The sheer size and number of icebergs, each carved by time, is breathtaking. Varying from bright blue to pure milky white each one is unique. Some of the ice is still speckled with rich black volcanic ash from ancient eruptions. To stand in this place you feel frozen in time.
